Skills For Life/ESOL
The project provides training support in Skills for Life /ESOL to 30 people per year particularly those from sub-Saharan Africa and Eastern European women and men from the ages of 18 and above in the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham and surrounding areas who are contributing to the high numbers of those Not in Education Employment and Training (NEET).
This program targets a group that in many ways is unable to access the traditionally available opportunities due to constraints of time, lack of resources, new in the UK, do not speak English as a first language and are very hard to reach. It addresses the barriers of language and numeracy skills to enable the target group integrate into the community and move closer to the labour market.

The teaching and learning methods are flexible to incorporate the learners’ ideas and needs in a way that traditionally funded programmes have not been able to respond to.
Objectives of the Project
• To recruit and train 30 women, men and young people to achieve ESOL entry 1 and entry 2 qualifications. This is after realising from other projects that there are growing numbers of people who need the basic ESOL training.
• To deliver sustainable development by equipping women, men and young people with the skills and knowledge needed to actively integrate into both their present home lives and future work.
• To start the learning experience with a one-to-one assessment that establishes the learning needs and levels of skills, enabling the clients to look at their own strengths and skills gaps.
• To provide an opportunity for the participants to improve their communication skills in a non-formal learning environment appropriate to their needs to enable them to settle into the community and get jobs or get into further education.
• To provide opportunity for learners to enhance their literacy and numeracy skills to improve their confidence in handling day-to-day living activities e.g. completing application forms, writing simple CV’s and letters.
• To provide an opportunity for the learners to participate in designing and organising the learning activities and experiences.
Ex-offenders Development Programme
The project's aims are that:
1. 15 young ex-offenders will acquire a skill that will make them employable every year
2. we register 10 ex-offenders with the job centre and possibly help them to claim active job seekers allowance while they continue to seek employment opportunities
3.13 ex-offenders will complete a vocational training and will get apprenticeship opportunities with the first reference being provided by ACOMREDE.
4. 12 ex-offenders will get support into further education colleges such as Barking and Dagenham Adult College and Barking College to progress into IT, different NVQ and diploma courses.
ACOMREDE provides the following to ex-offenders;
1. RECRUITS: Through outreach and extensive publicity through community meetings, display publicity materials in other charities, fast food restaurants and word of mouth through our current networks and beneficiaries
2. TRAINS: This will begin with a general orientation about the aims and activities of the project. Training is continue 2 days a week on various skills including computing and Administration. Participants also receive information, advice and guidance on employment and job search issues. At the end of the training, it is expected that participants would have developed skills necessary for searching, applying and acquiring jobs and have the confidence to work with groups of people from different backgrounds.

3. PLACES: we place participants for 16 weeks a time within the voluntary, private or public sectors of the community according to their choices. During this period, trained volunteers serve as mentors and befriend the participants; providing them with personal assistance and logistics. Participants are required to complete at least 200 hours of voluntary work.
